Anchorage FIR coverage

JetScan1:

--- Quote ---To my knowledge, 11279/8891 are the polar, which only control the part of Canada and entering through Edmonton FIR to connect with VHF, I have been a good time with those frequencies and I never heard an airplane through that sector

The Anchorage ATOP sector 64 airspace is delegated to Gander Radio for voice comms. Eastbound you will hear flights checking on with Gander as they cross the Magadan/Anchorage boundary (169W), and westbound you will hear them report their position on the Edmonton/Anchorage boundary (141W) then they are instructed to contact Magadan at the Anchorage/Magadan boundary. They stay with Gander as they cross sector 64.

As SATCOM coverage still appears to be spotty that far up north it is quite common to hear these flights working Gander Radio. I checked the LiveATC 8891 archive from yesterday and heard Gander working a few flights through sector 64.

There are also published San Francisco HF LDOC frequencies that can be used as backup, but they are not used very often AFAIK. Iceland Radio can also be used as a backup. Current NOTAM below.

Thank you very much for all the information, certainly in 8891 there are many transpolar flights, but ... could you solve the question of the sectors 10/11 oceanic and if they are monitored in Live Atc?

There are not any LiveATC feeds that cover 10/11 AFAIK. Would be nice to have but probably would not be easy given the remote location of the transmitter sites.

Good again! I have been researching and I have found this: https://radio.arinc.net/pacific/ you have the updated hf frequencies of the day and you can hear what we are talking about the ocean anchorage air space, speak with San Francisco now at 6655khz, very interesting : http://kiwisdr.robinett.us:8073/

Thanks for the link ! First time I've seen that, very handy.

FYI if you are interested you can also find the occasional live Oakland and Anchorage Inmarsat SATCOM and HFDL data here .....

http://thebaldgeek.net:2880/ui/#/3

http://thebaldgeek.net:2880/ui/#/4

The HFDL reception isn't great, better to use one of the KiwiSDR's.

If you have Linux you can decode the CPDLC ("AT1" messages) using decpdlc (part of dumpvdl2).

https://github.com/szpajder/dumpvdl2

eg:

/OAKODYA.AT1.B-202822085D1D52ED4F821173E03A9D

/OAKODYA = Oakland Oceanic
AT1 = identifies message as CPDLC
B-2028 = Aircraft Registration
22085D1D52ED4F821173E03A9D = CPDLC message data

Decoded with decpdlc ...

FANS-1/A CPDLC Message:
CPDLC Uplink Message:
Header:
Msg ID: 4
Timestamp: 02:05:52
Message data:
CONTACT [icaounitname] [frequency]
Facility designation: KZOA
Facility function: center
VHF: 119.975 MHz
